Author Timothy Fort Nominated for the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize

West Academic author, Timothy Fort, has been nominated for the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize for his work in advancing the field of how business can contribute to peace. Fort is the author of the business ethics textbook, The Vision of the Firm (now in its 4th edition) and The Legal and Ethical Environment of Business (with Stephen Presser).

Stanford University Press published The Diplomat in the Corner Office: Corporate Foreign Policy (2015), which won a Best Book Award from the Academy of Management and has been recognized as a seminal book in the business and peace field. He has also written three other books on business and peace (Yale, 2008) and Cambridge (2003, with Cindy Schipani, and 2007) with the 2007 book also winning an Academy of Management Best Book Award.

Fort is recognized as a co-founder of the field of business and peace and over the past 25 years, has led 16 conferences and co-edited 8 special issues. He also co-led a task force for the US Institute of Peace, developed a program with the US State Department pairing MBA students with entrepreneurs in Afghanistan in an attempt to differentiate that country’s economy and partnered with several NGOs including the Oslo-based Business for Peace Foundation, the International Institute of Peace Through Tourism, and the Peace Through Commerce Center.

Fort holds the Eveleigh Professorship of Business Ethics at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and is an Affiliated Scholar at the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame. He holds his BA and MA from Notre Dame and his JD and PhD from Northwestern University.
